Feminism goes crazy, apparently so does everyone – except Hillary fans

Feminist on feminist violence – no it’s not a porn movie, it might be the beginning of a return to normality – maybe, perhaps. We discuss the concept of transgenders and the newest “don’t call it a disability” transableism. How can we think and speak about these things with compassion and understanding – that doesn’t pretend there’s nothing wrong here? There IS a right and wrong, enabling mental illness isn’t the way, but we have to be careful to recognize what is and isn’t illness and to be compassionate with all sufferers.

There was some action on the Patriot Act / Freedom Act – and a politician went overboard in his rhetoric. Nothing unusual, but when that politician is also in the middle of a campaign for President, overheated rhetoric and getting carried away takes on additional meaning. We discuss Rand Paul.

And for our moment of schadenfreude – Hillary scheduled a speech to women, about women’s issues. Couldn’t sell enough tickets so had to invite men. Her campaign is just blazing a path across the land. Can you FEEL the excitement?

Political Messaging is Selling – Sales Tactics are Appropriate

Learn how to sell and you will learn how to be persuasive in political discussions. For an excellent example of brilliant selling, watch Carly Fiorina’s speech at the SBA List meeting. She sells the pro-life movement in a way that we all need to learn.

When you’re working to convert someone, they are not your opponent, they are your future ally, so think of them as a salesman would think of a future customer. You want to pull them over to your side, agree with them, make them agree with you, and then assume the close. Carly does this beautifully.

Do you agree with that? Nobody agrees with that! Even people who think they’re pro-choice don’t agree with that.

Then we discuss a few alarming tactics of the left – the horrific John Doe investigations in Wisconsin, and the media’s effective and easy to miss tactic of controversializing the right.

Learn the tactics of you opponent, and learn them well, so that you can defend against them.

They’ll Make A Weapon Out Of Anything

The left is always on attack, always prepared to turn any slight mistake into a weapon and use it against us. It’s exhausting to always have to defend against this stuff, but it’s what we have to do if we want to win.

In this week’s discussion we talked about recent examples of minor goofs, or simple questions that get turned into weapons by the left, and most importantly, how we are learning to prepare for, and respond to, the attacks that come our way.

Division and separation are tearing us apart

Look around and all you see is people dividing each other into groups, separating themselves from others. That’s not bad in and of itself, but it really keeps us from moving forward in any meaningful way.

Pro-life folks position themselves apart from women in need, and can end up positioning themselves as a weird, offensive “other”.

Nanny statists separate parents from the ability to decide what’s best for their kids, and then wonder why kids seem un-parented.

Crony developers get tax breaks to add Section 8 units to their upscale apartment buildings – but make the poor enter through a separate door.

Federal workers make more than private sector counterparts, and don’t have the same concerns about performance, losing their jobs, not having retirement funds etc – they’re a different class, separate from the rest of us.

Not directly mentioned in the podcast, but it really is the theme tying things together – the more we separate ourselves into groups and subgroups, the weaker we seem to become – and the meaner, and unhappier.

It’s The National Security, Stupid

Did the Secretary of State put the nation at risk? Tonight’s show began with coverage of the Hillary presser. The email scandal is still boiling, Hillary finally took a few questions, nothing surprising, all so very sad and predictable. How do we, as conservatives, talk about this is a way that will help our movement, help our side? It’s the National Security, stupid. Hillary’s homegrown email server is a humongous risk to the nation.

We haven’t quite gotten to the point in the scandal where we are discussing that with intensity, but we’ll get there, and we need to be ready for it. So we talk about how to talk about it, effectively.

Next we talked about how to recover from our ongoing disappointments with the Washington GOP. Still recovering from the disappointment with the DHS bill, but now it’s time to look for next steps. Fortunately there’s a stable of thoughtful, helpful writers out there that we can look to. Tying together articles from Jim DeMint, Jon Gabriel, Andy Peth, and Kurt Schlichter we find our way to optimism and energy.

Surviving Disappointment – Let Down by Washington, Again

Sometimes it’s just all so depressing – the left, the right, the general public – sometimes all you can do is recognize it and commisserate. That’s an important first step, and helps us get to the point where we can make things better.

The Left had a complete meltdown over Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress. Why? What the heck is wrong with them?

The DHS fight is over, the result is as expected – Obama and the Democrats got what they want. What do we do now? There isn’t a consensus, perhaps we’re still in the grieving period, anger, depression, etc – we’re not yet at the solutions stage.

We on the right hold some misconceptions about how low and middle wage families live and use money, If we want to be a more effective movement, with a larger base of support, we need to learn about this.

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary – first there was a foreign government funding scandal, that got tossed off the news pages because of the email scandal. Can’t the Democrats come up with a candidate that isn’t such a scandal magnet?

Media Deception And How We Can Get Around It

Old media – they’re not just biased, they’re also dishonest. We talk about the Brian Williams issue, what it means for the media in general, and more importantly, how we can work around it. How can conservatives capitalize on the loss of trust and growing understanding of media bias. New medai, the ability to reach anyone, anywhere, usually for free works to our advantage. We have to use it.

We discuss the specific examples of Brian Williams and the lies they tried to push about Thom Tillis, how it’s of a piece with Hillary’s lies about the Bosnian Sniper Fire, and then we discuss the example of abortion. How the right used the left’s tacitc of never quitting and it’s the culture that we’ve been able to change, slowly, knowing that the law will follow.

Obama’s ‘ALL IS WELL!’ World View

animal-house-remain_calm1On Tuesday, Obama spoke to the United Nations General Assembly, and made some of the following comments:

“The world is more stable now than it was five years ago.” “Just as we reviewed how we deploy our extraordinary military capabilities in a way that lives up to our ideals, we’ve begun to review the way that we gather intelligence so that we properly balance the legitimate security concerns of our citizens and allies with the privacy concerns that all people share,” he said. “As a result of this work and cooperation with allies and partners, the world is more stable than it was five years ago,” he added. Obama did note, however, that “dangers remain.” “Even a glance at today’s headlines indicates that dangers remain,” Obama said. “In Kenya we’ve seen terrorists target innocent civilians in a crowded shopping mall, and our hearts go out to the families of those who have been affected. In Pakistan nearly 100 people were recently killed by suicide bombers outside a church. In Iraq killings and car bombs continue to be a terrible part of life.” “Meanwhile, al-Qaida has splintered into regional networks and militias which doesn’t give them the capacity at this point to carry out attacks like 9/11, but it does pose serious threats to governments and diplomats, businesses and civilians all across the globe.”

Now, he did acknowledge there are dangers.  Bully for him.  But the rest of this world vision simply is a level of self-delusion that is not just amusing for his opponents and our enemies on the world stage, but is in fact quite dangerous.

Let us take a case by case look at the world, shall we?

Afghanistan:  Almost twice as many American military personnel have died in that country under Barack Obama’s 4+ years than during Bush’s 7 years of  over seeing that war.  The government has largely distanced itself from its American counterparts, and to varying degrees has aligned itself with Iran and Pakistan.  The Taliban is resurgent, and simply are waiting for the inevitable Obama announcement for exiting the war all together.

Pakistan:  This critical nation is more destabilized now than ever.  The political situation is tenuous, and our relations with them continue to reach all-time new lows.

Iran:  Iran inches toward nuclear weapons, a clear goal if there ever was one.  We missed an opportunity during the Green revolution in 2009, and such a chance will be unlikely to come again.

Iraq:  The country for which Obama has the least historical responsibility, but things are not going well here.  Violence has escalated, almost close to the levels of the civil war of 2006.  And because we withdrew from the Bush-era force agreement, we have no leverage there, as Iraq, like Syria before it, starts to become a proxy state for the Iranians.

Syria:  The biggest, most glaring hole in Obama’s claim.  100,000 Syrians have died during the two-year civil war, and tens of thousands more will die before the war is over.

Israel/Palestine:  The peace process has been dead as a doornail, with neither side even approaching the negotiation table.

Egypt:  After Syria, maybe the next most glaring example of failure.  Violence has been rampant all year, as the Muslim Brotherhood was pushed out of the democratic process.  Ever since Obama helped displace Mubarak from the leadership, Egypt has been in a slow death spiral.  Now, ironically, it looks like only the Egyptian military, from which Mubarak himself originated, can save the country.

Libya:  We helped oust Qadhafi, and ever since, it has been a failed state.  The central government controls less than 1/3 of the nation. Islamists control the rest. Many of the weapons we sent to the rebels has been used in other Islamist conflicts through out Africa, the most prominent being the Mali civil war.

Russia: Outside of the Middle East, the biggest diplomatic failure.  We are closer to a new Cold War than we have been since 1991.  Putin has no respect or love for Obama, and opposes him at every turn.

Al Qaeda/Islamic terrorists;  Probably deserves its own category.  Whether you are discussing Yemen, Kenya, or elsewhere, the death of Osama Bin Laden has done little if anything to stop the generational war that Islamists continue to fight, whether we admit it or not.

Simply put, no rational analysis of the world situation can result in thinking the world is more stable today than five years ago.  We can argue whether this is Obama’s fault or not, whether this is a historical trend we are swimming against, whether this all the fault of George W. Bush, or maybe the fault of Aliens.  But in short…Obama’s view is simply delusional.  There is no other way to describe it.

Thoughts On The Benghazi Hearing

81a65bce7691480f310f6a7067008093

Capitol Hill hearings today featured three compelling witnesses, all State Department veterans: Gregory N. Hicks, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Libya and the highest-ranking U.S. diplomat in the country at the time of the Benghazi jihad attacks; Mark I. Thompson, a former Marine who now serves as deputy coordinator for operations in the agency’s Counterterrorism Bureau; and Eric Nordstrom, a diplomatic-security officer who was the top security officer in Libya.

Clearly, those that testified today appeared overall to be much more non-partisan and professional than some of the people questioning them.  Anyone that watched the testimony is going to be hard pressed to label Hicks and the others as some kind of political firebrands.  Tears were in the eyes of many of these whistleblowers, as they told of how their friends died while they watched.

A few questions clearly remain after today’s testimony:

1.  Not once, but TWICE, there was a ‘stand down’ order made on the night of 9/11/2012.  We can argue whether or not this action could have saved any lives; there is some dispute of whether the force in Tripoli could have made a difference, and whether there were other assets in the area.  Only the Defense Department review of events of that night will answer that question.

However, Hicks argues that even an Air Force fly over may have pushed the rebel insurgents back.  That is only his theory, however.

That said, we know the military was ready to move.  According to Hicks, the deputy chief of mission in Libya, special forces in Tripoli were “furious” when they were told to stand down during the Benghazi attack. “I will quote Lieutenant Colonel Gibson,” Hicks told the House Oversight Committee in hearings today, “He said, ‘This is the first time in my career that a diplomat has more balls than somebody in the military.’”

Mark Thompson, the deputy coordinator for operations at the State Department’s bureau of counter-terrorism during the Benghazi attacks, testified in previous testimony, that the Foreign Emergency Support Team (FEST)—a special unit comprised of special-operations officers, FBI officers and diplomatic security personnel—was not deployed on the evening of the attacks.

“I alerted my leadership indicating that we needed to go forward and consider the deployment of the Foreign Emergency Support Team,” Thompson said. He added that he was told that meetings had already taken place. “I was told this was not the right time to deploy the team.”

So who made the decision to stop deployment? Maybe it was the right decision, maybe it wasn’t, but 8 months after the attack, we don’t know who in the leadership made the call.  I presume it was President Obama.

2.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was personally called by Hicks at 2 A.M. that night…did she issues the ‘stand down’ order herself?  Is that even legal?

What is more important about this call is that at that time, he told Ms. Clinton, in no uncertain terms, that this was clearly a terrorist attack, according to Ambassador Stevens himself, who told this to Hicks as the attack was starting.  Why Clinton then repeated the rhetoric that it was a ‘spontaneous protest’ days later, even at the funeral of one of the dead, remains a mystery.  Some intelligence sources in D.C. remained unsure of the facts, but if your own diplomatic personnel say it was a terrorist attack…why wouldn’t you believe your own people on the ground over intelligence sources in Washington?

3.  Following up on the previous, one thing is clear:  The “protest” about a YouTube video was a complete fabrication by the Obama administration. There was at no moment in time any evidence that this was spontaneous or that it was instigated by the video.  Not according to the people in Libya at the time.

4.  There was clear push back from allies of Ms. Clinton in allowing these whistleblowers to testify to Congress. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff Cheryl Mills on multiple occasions put up road blocks and pressured the witnesses to limit their testimony.  Why?  If Ms. Clinton supported full openness and transparency, there was absolutely no reason for these actions.

Further worsening the appearance of this, Hicks testified that he basically has been demoted; and the demotion came only after his intent to testify and bring his version of the facts came to light.  So much for whistleblower protections in the Obama Administration.

The reality is, ultimately, this testimony will do nothing on the larger scale.  Liberals dismissed this testimony without every hearing a second of it, and the media will aid their wish to remain ignorant.  They feel they know everything they need to know, even though there were numerous facts today that were omitted in the internal review performed by the State Department, and out right contradictions to testimony by Sec. Clinton and others.  It has gone so far as the White House complaining to CBS that Sharyl Attkisson, who has done brilliant work on Benghazi, should basically be ‘shut down’.  That is what transparency means to this White House and to the media today.

Furthermore, because of the lack of transparency from the White House, we don’t know who gave the ‘stand down’ order. If it was the President, he should admit it.  It was clearly his right, but to pass the buck to low level staffers who should never have had that responsibility is simply unfair.

However, Republicans have failed to show an outright cover-up.  The clearest we get to such a ‘crime’ is the Susan Rice debacle, with the repetitive blaming of the YouTube video for the riot instead of it clearly being, by all evidence even on the day of the attack, a coordinated terrorist event.  Was this a true cover-up, or was the administration really so stupid to believe their own story?  This is the most politically slanted part of the story, and my guess is neither side will accept the other’s version completely. Let us accept this much: it is reasonable to say the administration was clearly and utterly incompetent, and honestly should never have even mentioned the video in relation to Benghazi.

Ultimately, the country learned a lot about how the Obama Administration works today.  The blame, when things go wrong, will never reside with the President or his key advisers, but will be displaced to low level players that have no political leverage.  When those low level advisers try to tell their story, they are treated as pariahs and they are attacked mercilessly.  Democrats in that hearing today had no respect whatsoever for the concept of ‘whistleblower protections’, and sadly, future whistleblowers in this administration surely will have learned that lesson; they will get no protection from this President.

As for the night of the attacks, there was poor execution for any response, and even with the ‘fog of war’, the Obama people performed poorly and in hindsight, were completely taken aback by the events.  What is more disturbing is that on 9/11, one of the few days on the calendar when we should be prepared for a terrorist attack…our President and his administration were woefully unprepared.

One final point.  What is also clear, and that we have long known, is that those that died that night were left alone, without enough security, and still did their duty to our country.  They died as heroes.
