CU Talks: GOP Primaries, ep.1418

The podcast is here! This week we talked about the upcoming GOP primaries in Georgia, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, and Oregon. Since Antonio is a Georgian, he had much to contribute about that race. A runoff is expected, between the Establishment pick and whichever of the challengers can prevail. After Tuesday’s election – will all of the challengers rally behind the victor so that the Establishment guy can be defeated, or will petty party politics reign?

CU Talks: Celebrating Mediocrity, ep.1417

The podcast is here! This week we’ll talked about the drive of the left to celebrate and encourage mediocrity rather than excellence. This is seen in government (where are the true Statesmen?), Education, Media, Popular Culture – it’s everywhere.

CU Talks: Benghazi and PopTarts, ep.1416

The podcast is here! We were supposed to talk about John Kerry being wrong about Israel, and then the entire Obama Administration being wrong about Benghazi, but the Benghazi story kind of exploded yesterday, so Israel was left for another day.

Israel is busy being a very successful country, and they really don’t need us screwing them up any further, it’s probably good for us to leave them alone for a while.

The Benghazi situation MAY finally be reaching that tipping point where it becomes something more than just a “Republican obsession”. There was some quite amazing testimony from Gen. Lovell with Jason Chaffetz. A Congressman using anger to keep the tears at bay, and a General deploying stoic silence to keep his emotions in check. Judicial Watch also finally got an unredacted version of a memo that really does deserve to be called the smoking gun.

It’s about time for an honorable Obama Administration employees to come forward and speak the truth of that night, and of the cover-up aftermath.

Bret Baier had an NSC spokesman on his show who clarified what many of us had suspected – Obama never bothered to go to the Situation Room at all that night. NINE HOURS the consulate and compound were under siege. The Egyptian Embassy was also under attack at that time. American soil under terrorist attack, American citizens under fire. Obama couldn’t be bothered to go down the hall.

After we talked about this for an hour, we needed some sanity, so Antonio and I talked about PopTarts, and Nikos just laughed at us being silly. That’s the way things go.

CU Talks: Open Mic Night ep.1415

This week’s podcast is a hangout – see us AND hear us! The topic was Federal Ammunition Purchases and the Militarization of our Police Forces. Why? Is this a frightening portent or just paranoia on our part?

CU Talks: Free Speech and Civil Disobedience ep.1414

This week’s podcast continues last week’s discussion about the threats to free speech. Not so much via the govenment, yet, but via social pressure. We also continue to discuss the Bundy Ranch situation in Nevada – when is it time for Civil Disobedience? How to generally law abiding conservatives react when the law itself is the problem?

CU Talks: Free Speech for All, We Really Mean It ep.1413

This week’s podcast is about free speech, currently under sustained assault by the activist left. That seems pretty hyperbolic, and perhaps it is, but only a bit. Through the hour we discuss the most recent events – McCutcheon ruling, Mozilla’s surrender to the activists – and betrayal of their longtime partner, Brandeis University pulling an honorary degree away from Ayaan Ali, and a most recent attack on Dropbox.

How do all the dots get connected? What’s their overall goal? Why the tech sector? Yeah, there’s a theory on that.

We finish the hour with a bit of discussion about the standoff in Nevada between a farmer and the BLM. At this point the only certain conclusion is that the Feds are FAR to involved in our day-to-day lives.

CU Talks: Immigration Policy Enforcement, or the lack thereof ep.1412

This week’s podcast began with a cast change. We are pleased to introduce our newest co-host, Antonio Cunningham, but shocked at the departure of our friend James Pisano. Jim took the first part of the show to explain his departure and wish us well. Then we focused on Immigration enforcement policy. Nikos walked us through the LEGAL process that he followed. It really clarifies why legal immigrants can have so little patence or respect for the “plight” of illegals. We touched on what Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid thought about illegal immigration in 2003 versus 2014, and how illegal immigration can very easily be the straw that breaks the back of the Nation.

CU Talks: Open Mic Night ep.1411

This week’s podcast was our monthly video hangout, with guests Antonin Cunningham, Al Lilianstrom, and Dan Lewis. We discussed issues brought up in the CU Member Spotlight interview that Antonio had provided earlier in the week.

How do we understand the challenge of helping a population who is conservative in most ways understand that they ARE conservative, and should perhaps vote that way? The Republican party has a bad name, how to do recruit assistance in our efforts to hijack the GOP and make it represent conservative values? What can we learn from Evangelists in terms of technique and passion?

CU Talks: Bureaucracy and Its Drag on Society, ep.1410

In this week’s podcast:
Bureaucracies, at every level, place a drag on society, how infuriating it can be to be forced to ask permission for what would otherwise be a very benign activity.

Nikos shares his tales of woe from Greece – both in country as a lad, and quite recently in dealing with the Greek Embassy. Maddening, frustrating, horrid – and sadly not all that different from American Bureaucracy. This is our future?

Jim shares the story of a Wyoming farmer who had the audacity to put in a stock pond, on his own land, with all the required permits. The EPA comes along afterwards, decides they don’t like it, and now the man is headed towards bankruptcy due to the excessive fines. And he has very little legal recourse. Then he reminds us, this has all been predicted:

After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
— Alexis de Tocqueville

Leslie found that Marco Rubio introduced a proposal to reduce the cost of federal regulations. First you’ll be surprised at just how costly these regulations are, but it’s good to know that there is some work being done to slow or stop THIS outrageous aspect of Federal Leviathan. And…there’s some bipartisanship on this effort as well. It just needs to get more attention.

CU Talks: Ukraine Update and Analysis ep.1409

This week’s podcast is here! In this episode:

  • What, exactly, is going on in the Ukraine, and what does it mean to the rest of the world?
    • The human aspect: Nikos has friends there, our CU community members have friends there
    • America’s position, what can we do, what will we do
    • Why is Europe hamstrung in their ability to respond?
    • The military drawdown, does it change the calculation
    • Historical parallels
  • Too busy to be involved in politics? A slightly different perspective may help.
    • Recognize where we can’t compete against liberals
    • Recognize where we can, and how we could
    • Somethings we can do are not only better for the conservative movement, but can make US happier too
